The 6th edition of Bangalore International Film Festival (BIFFES) will be organized from 26th December 2013 to 2nd January 2014. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah unveiled the BIFFES logo last Sunday (1st Dec).
A collection of 152 movies from about 45 countries will be screed during the festival. The State government has allocated Rs. 2 crore for the film festival which is being organized by Karnataka Chalanachitra Academy in coordination with Film Chamber of Commerce.
The films will be screened in seven venues:
- 3 in Fun cinemas, Sigma Mall, Cunningham road.
- 2 in Lido Inox, Ulsoor.
- 1 in ‘Sulochana’ – Information Dept., Infantry Road
- 1 in Priyadarshini – Badami House, N R Square
The movies will be divided into 15 categories
- Cinema of the World (50)
- Asian cinema competition (10)
- Indian cinema competition (10)
- Kannada cinema competition (9)
- Languages & Dialects of Karnataka (2)
The film festival movie list also includes retrospectives, Indian classics, Kannada retrospectives and old classics, among others. This year, the Kannada retrospective will be dedicated to Dr. Rajkumar.
The movie collection also includes award-winning films of various international festivals such as Cannes, Berlin, Moscow, Venice and Toronto. Latin American films that have won critical acclaim will also feature in the festival.
Acclaimed Asian films from China, Japan, Korea, Kazakhstan, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Indonesia will be the focus this year. As many as 14 films, nominated for the 86th Academy Award for the Best Foreign Language Film are also part of the fest.
The Bangalore International Film Festival will be inaugurated by popular film actor Dr. Kamal Haasan on 26th December evening and the screenings will begin from next day.
